The Letters in My Name

I can notice and spell letters in a familiar name with help.

Let’s get started

Your name is an important word, and its letters have an order.

Learn together

  1. Ask a grown-up to write your name large; look at the first letter.
  2. Say the names of the letters in your name, from left to right.
  3. Mix up matching letter cards and put them in the right order.

Example to explore

A name might look like: A - N - A (the letters depend on YOUR name).

Try it yourself

  1. Which letter usually begins a written first name?
  2. In what direction do we read English letters?
  3. Type your first name or copy it onto paper, then tell someone its first letter.

Hands-on project

Create a name mosaic by arranging your name letters from paper scraps. Explain which letter comes first.

Reflect and grow

Which letter of your name can you recognize elsewhere?
