Draw, Label, Tell

I can draw something I know and add a label to explain it.

Let’s get started

Writers can begin by drawing and naming. Your picture is the beginning of a story.

Learn together

  1. Pick something familiar, like a pet, a tree, or a favorite toy.
  2. Draw it so someone else can recognize it.
  3. Write its name or ask an adult to help you sound out the letters.

Example to explore

🌳 tree

Try it yourself

  1. Type one thing you want to draw.
  2. Which word labels this picture? 🐱
  3. Tell what your drawing shows in your own words.

Hands-on project

Make a labeled picture of your favorite place. Teach someone the names of two things in it.

Reflect and grow

How did your label help another person understand your picture?
